Agricola Punica Barrua 2020

Agricola Punica Barrua 2020

Barrua was first released in the 2002 vintage. The grapes come from the Barrua and Narcao estates. The Carignano is an ancient grape of Phoenicians origin and the blend’s predominant grape has found its perfect terroir in the warm, well exposed Sardinian terrain. The vines are closely planted here, designed to minimize yields and maximize the wine’s concentration.  Harvesting is done by hand, whole bunches are then crushed, destemmed, and fermented on the skins for about 15 days in stainless steel vats. The wine is oak-aged for about 18 months before blending and bottle ageing. Barrua is made of 85% Carignano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in color, the wine offers intense aromas and flavors of black fruit, dry herbs and spice. It is full bodied with a velvety texture and balanced tannins, ending in a lengthy, elegant finish.

Food Pairings
It matches very well with braised lamb, rich stews, game and long seasoned cheeses.
