Chateau Palmer 2000

Chateau Palmer 2000

Will age well. That is this vintage’s first quality. From mid-July, dry and sunny weather allowed the grapes to mature slowly but surely. The quality of the fruit, along with immensely ripe tannins and just the right amount of acidity, produced a truly great Margaux with a long life expectancy.

After the devastating storm at the end of the century, 2000 began with a mild winter, almost spring-like. From the beginning of March, temperatures dropped in the morning before rising mid-afternoon. This mildness was dangerous. If precocity is sometimes beneficial, we were also aware of the risks of a hasty departure concerning the vegetation. Vine growth began as early as March 14th. At the end of May, the cold and rainy weather was not very favorable for flowering. Winemakers were particularly vigilant due to the wet weather. Flowering ended in good conditions mid-June. Summer only really came as of mid-July and the grapes continued to ripen slowly from then on. The drought lasted right up until the harvest. Although the sugar levels did not reach those of 1999, the richness of the phenolic compounds was extraordinary. The quality of the fruit, combined with ripe tannins and sufficient acidity produced an incredible long-lasting Margaux.

The 2000 vintage shines through its classicism. It is rich and dense with a powerful and complex nose. Its taste is immediately impressive. We are talking about a powerful Château Palmer with exceptional aging qualities.
