Located in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation on Bordeaux's Left Bank, Château Lagrange is part of one of the Médoc's most prestigious wine-growing areas.
Classified as a Troisième Grand Cru Classé (Third Growth) in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Château Lagrange is one of Saint-Julien's flagship estates. Since its acquisition by the Japanese Suntory Group in 1983, the château has undergone extensive vineyard replanting and cellar modernization, becoming one of the appellation's benchmark producers.
The outstanding 2016 vintage benefited from a warm, dry summer and a long, even harvest, producing grapes with remarkable concentration and freshness. The wine is crafted through parcel-by-parcel vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, allowing each vineyard plot to express its unique character. Following fermentation, the blend—70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot—is matured for approximately 21 months in French oak barrels, around 50–60% of which are new, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth, structure, and elegance.
Deep garnet in colour, Château Lagrange 2016 opens with intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry, cedar, violets, and subtle hints of licorice and graphite. The palate is full-bodied and beautifully structured, with refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and layers of cassis, dark plum, spice, cocoa, and mineral notes. Powerful yet impeccably balanced, the wine culminates in a long, persistent finish and promises exceptional aging potential.
Serving: at 16°C to 18°C in a Bordeaux glass.
